The Cathedral of Mainz

Begun by Bishop Bardo in 1036 it was reconstructed by Henry IV in 1081. The present west end was completed between 1200 and 1250. Initially the cathedral continued the two choir format.

Viewed from behind the "imperium altar/table" one looks toward the east choir of the sacerdotium (Circulation problems were solved by entries from the north and south side of the nave).
