At this early date the Rome and Provence sarcophagi share still another figure with earlier pagan iconography, that of Jonah. Jonah sarcophagus frontal. Upper left-the raising of Lazarus; left of center- Moses striking the rock; right of center- Jesus being taken by the soldiers; extreme upper right- the Good Shepherd; lower right- a fisher of man; bottom right of center- Noah in his ark releasing pigeon; lower left- workman loading ship; bottom left of center- Jonah being thrown overboard into the mouth of Cetus; lower right of center- Jonah being regurgitated by the Cetus; upper center right- Jonah under the cucurbitas. Variously attributed to 3rd or 4th century AD.
