The great organ
Abstract
The core of the organ was the Aeolian Skinner pipe organ, originally built in 1962 for Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall (David Geffen Hall). It was augmented by the Ruffatti organ originally installed in the church's previous sanctuary in 1977. The organ was constructed based on specifications by Virgin Fox and expanded by Frederick Swann. The organist had two 5-manual consoles with which to control the organ positioned in all four points of the interior of the Crystal Cathedral, and totaling 273 ranks.
