The vault of nave
Abstract
Another trompe d'oeil masterpiece of Andrea Pozzo is the vault fresco representing the missionary activity of the Jesuits titled "the Triumph of Saint Ignatius." The scene represents the ultimate success of the baroque in inviting the viewer into heaven itself as the heavens enter into the space of the church nave. The illusion takes one from the corners of the fresco, representing missionary endeavor through conversion and taken through the ministry of Ignatius Jesuits into heaven itself. Just outside the Gloria with the angels carrying the cross is the dark robed St. Ignatius.
