The marble balustrades surrounding the choir includes the insignium of John II (533-35).

To the left is the higher ambo for the reading of the Gospel.

On the Triumphal arch are the mosaics of Christ and the evangelists and at the base of the arch to the right and left are Peter and Clement. The mosaics are from the early 12th century.

To the right is the ambo for the Old Testament and epistles with reading desk.
