Resumo

This thesis is to suggest a strategy for teaching social justice for educational ministry in Nigeria. This is because for ihany decades, Nigeria has become a country stained with a record of social injustice and human rights abuses since Independence in 1960.

In another dimension, corruption has eaten the fabric of the Nigerian society. Without a bribe, nothing is achieved in Nigeria. The Nigerian judicial system is so currupt and frustrating that, it is not esay to find redress in the comt. Those who are in authority take the laws into their hands and it is hard to challenge them.

In the light of the preceding, this thesis called upon the Nigerian church to examine its role in the Nigerian society as a prophetic voice that needs to address the Nigerian social justice problems. It is only by so doing that the Nigerian church would be able to fulfill its mission of reconciliation in Nigeria. One possible way to achieve this is by developing a strategy for teaching social justice for educational ministry in Nigeria.

With a view to addressing this problem, chapter one deals with a brief history of Nigeria to set the cultural context in which this thesis has a bearing. This chapter also examines issues of social justice with particular attention to human rights abuses in Nigeria.

Chapter two deals with a theology of social justice as a foundation for developing a strategy for social justice for educational ministry in Nigeria.

Chapter three examines Paulo Freire's educational model for teaching social justice in the light of the Nigerian situation.

Chapter four is the concluding part which deals with suggestion of strategies that could help the teaching of social justice for educational ministry in Nigeria.
