Résumé

The paper entails a study under a topic, The Renewal of Confirmation Classes: An Exploration of Theological Resources for Developing Strong Rootedness in the Anglican Church of Uganda. It explores how the historical practices of catechism and confirmation in both the early church and the Anglican tradition can be utilized well in the church’s plight to have a better grounding of believers which will in turn help the church in her direction to have a more stable and more missional church.

The recommendations are so much in the direction of the church’s emphasis of ministry for all believers which is in line with the great commission in Matthew 28:18-20 and in line with the modernity, social and educational changes.

It explores how best the church in Uganda that is in the process of revising The Book of Common Prayer and developing a localized catechism can utilize the resources included here and change the teaching methodology in order to have more understanding of the content than cramming. It also checks on the Anglican Church’s teaching on what confirmation is and gives recommendations for the betterment of the rite most especially; a call to revise the reasons for joining a confirmation class and eventual confirmation to be more out of experience than a desire for partaking Holy Communion.
