In the central section of the sarcophagus of Junius Bassius we find Christ enthroned as lawgiver. The law in his hand being given to Peter while Paul stands at his right. Beneath him is a personification of the cosmos identical to that found in the imperial iconography beneath the feet of the emperor's on the triumphal arch of Galerius in Thessaloniki (see ICN0120 & ICN0121). Sarcophagus of Junius Bassius, upper middle section, crypt under St. Peter's Rome, 359 AD.
