Side Wall

Bruggink, Donald J. (Western Theological Seminary (Holland, Michigan) in partnership with Calvin College (Grand Rapids, Michigan), 1986)
The side wall with views of the Rhine has panels of stained glass but also panels of translucent glass at eye level, perhaps to obviate the distraction of activity on the Rhine.

Interior

Bruggink, Donald J. (Western Theological Seminary (Holland, Michigan) in partnership with Calvin College (Grand Rapids, Michigan), 1986)

Great church room

Bruggink, Donald J. (Western Theological Seminary (Holland, Michigan) in partnership with Calvin College (Grand Rapids, Michigan), 1986)
The simplicity of the exterior of the church is mirrored on it's interior. The ranks of pews focus on the liturgical center, which is allowed to speak for itself, without any further adornment to the "east" wall.

Glass walls

Bruggink, Donald J. (Western Theological Seminary (Holland, Michigan) in partnership with Calvin College (Grand Rapids, Michigan), 1986)
Two parallel walls of the church are floor to ceiling textured/wavy glass in order to diffuse natural light and to reduce exterior distractions.

Biblical scenes in Sainte Chapelle's windows

Bruggink, Donald J. (Western Theological Seminary (Holland, Michigan), 1978)
One wonders if Calvin was able to appreciate their beauty as well as their Biblical scenes.

Windows of Sainte Chapelle

Bruggink, Donald J. (Western Theological Seminary (Holland, Michigan), 1978)
The stained glass windows are the glory of Sainte Chapelle.

Nishi-suma Lutheran Church

Bruggink, Donald J. (Western Theological Seminary (Holland, Michigan), 2000)
Tadao ando, architect. The windows in the form of a cross provide the image of the cross on the wall behind the liturgical center.

Liturgical context

Bruggink, Donald J.
Note the windows which surround the congregation. Note also the strands supporting the small golden rectangles.
