Church on Mount Rokko
Tadao Ando, architect 1985-86. Connected to the Rokko Oriental Hotel by a long simple covered walkway the church functions primarily as a wedding chapel.
Note the ascending ramp and the fenestration seen in our first exterior photograph.
The chapel is a simple rectangle focusing on a large free-standing cross with a pulpit to the right and communion table to the left. The natural light is provided by narrow slits in the two upper rectancles and ceiling.
Church of the light
Church of the light, Tadao Ando, architect, 1988-89. Built in close relationship to a slightly larger church they are both identified as Church of the light.
The primary entrance is through a courtyard formed by a curved wall formed by the lot line of the property. A large Zelkova tree has been planted in the courtyard, offering shade and welcome to the entrance as one leaves ...
