What is the purpose of the concrete projection into the midst of the tranquil pool?

Throughout Ando has revealed his preference for a spare architectural palette. Marble stairs, concrete walls with the signature marking of the square form plates and a spare hand rail.

At the bottom of the stairs a Buddhist temple with traditional lattice and wooden timber work covered with vermillion paint.

Again one finds oneself between a straight and curved wall.

Behind the vermillion screen is the central Buddha.

The concrete projection reveals itself as a staircase leading into the depths of the pool. From this angle the water lilies seem to be extremely well ordered.

The curved wall ultimately reveals the Water Temple itself.

Passing through the door of the straight concrete wall one continues on the white gravel path around a curved wall which will gradually reveal one's purpose.
