I read Myers's paper in the light of a number of personal experiences. For the last several weeks, traveling Park Street from my home to my church in downtown Kalamazoo, I have passed a seven-foot sheet of plywood leaning against a tree. On it, in large letters, are the words, "Pray for Dustin." The yard also contains the charred remains of the house in which Dustin was severely burned. Once I saw a person near the sign, kneeling in prayer. Did the number of people praying for Dustin make a difference? Clearly, someone thought so.
